Georgie Padilla
Born in New York City in 1960 and raised in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico,
Georgie Padilla has been a professional percussionist, arranger, vocalist
and music teacher for over 40 years. He began playing at the age of twelve
with local groups from his hometown. Padilla was also one of the first
leaders and tutors for Guayanilla's School Band's percussion session.
Shortly after, he played with Nelson Feliciano and Kito Velez.
Padilla has a Bachelor's Degree in Musical Education from the
Interamerican University at San German Campus in Puerto Rico. He has
performed with Elías Lopés and Company, Jesús Caunedo's Puertorrican
Jazz, Los Saxofones de Mayaguez, Frankie Ruíz, Sonora Ponceña, Danny
Rivera, Lucecita Benitez, Jose Nogueras, and various international artists
such as Soledad Bravo, Isabel Pantojas, just to name a few. He also
participated in Cheo Feliciano's live recordings and video productions at
the Tropicana Club in Cuba.
Padilla had recorded on many of Jerry Rivera's productions. His impressive
list of recording and arrangement credits also include, Guianko, Ricardo
Visuete, Tito Gomez, Choco Orta, Jandy Feliz, Gilberto Santarosa, Pedro
De Jesús, and a host of other Latin Jazz luminaries. He has performed
worldwide with many top Latin groups including Frankie Ruiz, La Sonora
Ponceña and Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz.
Currently, Padilla is receiving his Master Degree in Multicultural Music
Performing at Texas State University in San Marcos and teaching at
Northwest Vista Community College as an Adjunct Faculty for Alamo
Community College in San Antonio Texas. Also, he is working on his own
band "Georgie Padilla & La Tribu" and participating in different projects such as: The BISA Orchestra (Boricuas in San Antonio), Los Tres Del Tambor, Georgie Padilla & Friends (Jazz), The San Antonio Mambo Kings,
among others.
