Kelsey Lee

Kelsey LeeKelsey Lee was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and was a member of the Louisville Leopard Percussionists (now known as the Fabulous Leopard Percussionists) from kindergarten through 6th grade. While with the Leopards, Kelsey performed at the Kentucky and the Indiana State Music Educators Association Convention, the Atlanta International Band and Orchestra Convention, the Kentucky Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion, the 1999 Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the 2000 Percussive Arts Society International Convention, and at the International Association for Jazz Education Convention in New Orleans. Kelsey has also performed with world-renown musicians including Victor Mendoza, Jerry Steinholtz, Louie Bellson, Ruben Alvarez, and Ndugu Chancler.



Kelsey attended DuPont Manual High School and the Youth Performing Arts School majoring in percussion. With the YPAS percussion ensemble, she performed at the 2003 Percussive Arts Society International Convention and traveled to Indianapolis in 2007 to perform at the Bands of America Convention. Throughout her middle and high school years she participated in All County and All State bands, performed annually at the Kentucky Music Educators Association earning distinguished ratings, and was an active musician in her church. She studied percussion privately from 7 to 19 years of age. Over these years, Kelsey strongly put her focus into marimba, snare drum, and Latin percussion studies, and today continues studying Latin percussion with Ruben Alvarez.

Currently Kelsey is an assistant director for the Fabulous Leopard Percussionists, acting as lead director for the 2nd and 3rd graders. She also assists in directing the introductory group, Leopards Lite. She teaches percussion at various summer camps including the Suzuki Piano Camp, and the Louisville Leopard's Drum Week, as well as traveling and performing with the University of Louisville Pep Band and other artists around Louisville.

Kelsey also volunteers for the Crusade for Children and works as a lifeguard, all while pursuing her degree in Elementary Education at Indiana University Southeast.
