Ernie Becquer

Ernie BecquerErnie Becquer started his musical journey when he was a young boy. His grandmother, Ubalda, exposed him to her favorite Cuban music and planted the seeds of Son, Bolero, Cha Cha, Mambo and many other types of Cuban music in his heart. He grew up listening to that music and it influenced him tremendously. Ernie also was inspired by his other grandmother, Anita, who was a poet, painter and artist who painted 100’s of paintings, recorded several records, many poems and a children’s book called “Nachito”. She encouraged Ernie to pursue his passion for music. Ernie is constantly searching for knowledge and history to expand his musicianship. His grandmothers can be credited for his passion for music and his constant journey of musical growth.

Ernie has lived in San Diego for more than 15 years, and his talent continues to be sought after by the top Salsa and Latin bands throughout California. His steady meter and passion for the conga is evident in his performances. He has performed all over the United States, Mexico, Central America and recently became the first Toca Percussion Artist to perform Salsa in Lagos, Nigeria (Africa). “It’s a blessing to be able to perform and express yourself through music,” says Ernie.

Ernie has shared the stage and opened for some of the biggest names in the business, including the late Ray Barretto, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and Cachao, as well as Oscar D’ Leon, Irakere, Cubanismo, Luisito Carrion, Son by 4 and Tito Nieves. “When you perform and share the stage with your musical heroes you can’t help but be honored,” says Ernie. “I am very thankful.”

Ernie thanks Toca as an Artist for their tremendous support, constant commitment to bringing the best products to market, and the dependability of those products. “I am very fortunate to be part of the wonderful Toca family.”
